Use Avocado Skin with Tea

“After an examination on the properties of avocado peel, it was kept in mind as a resource of nutrients and consequently, a tea formula was recommended as a means of recycling these discarded peels,” the research study’s authors created. “Phenolic and also flavonoid compounds were present in the avocado peel and also the notable antioxidant task of this tea resembles the extensively marketed companion tea.” Once again, these nutrients can aid with minimizing inflammatory tension on your body, which consequently has advantages like decreasing your danger of heart disease and improving blood circulation.

I made a decision to attempt this out and also make my own variation of the tea by taking both halves of an avocado’s skin as well as putting them in a pot filled with 2 cups of water. Next off, I brought it to a boil and also allow it bubble on medium-high warm for 5 mins. After that, I strained the mix, which looked similar to routine green tea. A tablespoon of honey was all it needs for the tastebuds to balance out the slightly bitter taste from the skins, but do not hesitate to include other add-ins for your own batch. It had an earthy taste similar to chamomile, but with a great hint of sweet taste from the honey.

Reviews on Microneedling

I had a fantastic experience with Cindy; she explained patiently how the procedures and post-treatment care. Besides that, she let me know what to expect when doing the treatment. For example, I will feel numb or a bit prickling. This is my first time trying microneedling. During the whole treatment, I felt so comfortable under the care of Cindy. Excellent service and highly recommended! Many thanks to lovely Cindy!– reviews from Elaine Cheah (a satisfied customer) of Wellaholic.

I realise I need a few more appointments to get the results I’m looking for – however, my first procedure was significant. After my redness calmed and the peeling stopped, my skin was so soft and had more of the old glow “.- yet again another satisfied customer who couldn’t stop raving about how Microneedling changed her skin conditionReal Patient Ratings.

Dermapen Vs Dermaroller

Both devices are designed to induce collagen by causing thousands of micro-injuries to the skin and stimulating the skin’s natural healing processes. However, here comes the big question- how are they different? Allow https://santesouthlake.com/microneedling-dermaroller-micropen/ to share the difference.

 • A Dermaroller (a device you can used at home) is a handheld tool equipped with rolling drum that is lined with thin needles. The drum is rolled across the skin, allowing the needles to puncture the epidermis, creating micro-injuries that stimulate the skin’s natural healing process.
 • A Microneedling pen or Dermapen (more often used by skincare professionals) is a technological upgrade to the traditional Dermaroller. The Micropen is a cordless, handheld device that uses a disposable tip equipped with fine needles. The Micropen is powered by a small motor and its needles penetrate the skin vertically, allowing for a more consistent delivery.

The Proven Benefits of Microneedling

Microneedling has proven to be effective not only for one but many other concerns that one could possibly have. Extracted from (https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/needling-your-way-to-healthier-skin), Studies show that people themselves and objective viewers report seeing a 45% to 55% improvement to the skin 6 to 12 weeks after a microneedling treatment.

 • Acne scars
 • Pigmentations
 • Fine Lines & Wrinkles
 • Improves skin elasticity and stimulate collagen production
 • Treats uneven skin tone
 • Improves the overall skin complexion!

Microneedling triggers the body’s natural healing response, leading to an increase in the production of collagen and elastin. In other words, helping your skin look its best- giving you the best glow ever!

How to Care for your Face after Microneedling

As the saying goes “beauty has a price to pay”. After treatment, visible redness can be observed on the skin, sometimes, a tad painful. Skin will start to feel warm and tight, but with the proper after-care tips, it could help you in the long run.

For the first 3 days-

 • Cleanse your skin with lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser. Always make sure your hand is clean before washing the face! (Do note that your face is still suffering from the treatment itself.)
 • SPF protection will be your best friend. Always use sunblock as your skin is prone to photo-damage.
 • DO NOT exfoliate your skin or use any alcohol-based toner. You should only apply products that help to soothe and calm the skin.
 • We recommend you not to apply any makeup for 72 hours after the treatment. Keep your skin naked and clean.
 • Do not go swimming or partake any strenuous exercise for the first 72 hours as perspirations may cause adverse reactions in your skin.
 • Resume your daily skincare routine right after 72 hours.

Microneedling can safely be repeated every 4 to 6 weeks until desired results are achieved. After four sessions spaced roughly one month apart, individuals have reported a big increase in collagen and elastin within six months of completing all the procedures. By using microneedling, you can have confidence in the results so long as you are patient!

7 Core workouts to do during the Lockdown

Day 5 of the circuit breaker: you slowly feel the sluggishness dragging your bones down after hours of Netflix. The swimming pools, gyms, and now even the stadiums are closed. And now you’re itching for a workout after finishing the latest season of Itaewon Class. To get you started, Tropika Club shares 7 core exercises you can do during the Circuit Breaker.

But first, why you should get a strong core:

Having a strong core is like having a strong engine driving your daily activities. From getting up from bed to bending over to pick up things on the floor, your core is the centre of every movement you make. With a strong core, you’ll have better balance and posture, and you get to reduce back pain as you relieve the strain from your lower back.

How should core exercises work?

Like an engine, your core has several muscle groups that help you move:

 • The rectus abdominis, what we often refer to as ‘abs’
 • The transverse abdominis, the internal core muscle that wraps around the side of your waist and spine
 • And the internal and external obliques, the muscles on both sides of the abdomen

Since every workout uses those muscles in different combinations, the most effective exercises work all of those muscles simultaneously. By working the core muscles all at once, you’re maintaining the balance of the core muscles. That not only improves performance but prevents injuries too.

So, with a better understanding of your core muscles, let’s get to work!

Read: How Exercises can Lift Your Spirits During COVID-19

1. Planks

I’m sure this is where some of us want to wriggle out of (me). As you do planks, you’re working your core, your hamstrings, and your glutes. By training those muscles, you’re not only building your strength and endurance but improving your balance and supports better posture as well.

The steps:

 • Place your palms on the floor, or your forearms for a better workout. Your elbows should be directly below your shoulders. Keep your palms facing forwards, so your arms are parallel with each other.
 • Extend your legs, and just place your toes on the floor. Now, your body should form a straight line from your shoulders all the way to your heels.
 • Hold your core, and work your glutes and quads. You should tuck your tailbone, but only a little so your lower back remains straight.
 • You should keep a straight line; check if your hips are dropping to the floor, or if your butt is heading to the ceiling.
 • Keep your neck in a neutral position, so don’t lower your head. Keep your gaze on your hands.
 • Hold for 1 minute at first. You can increase the duration as you get stronger.
woman planking on gray asphalt road

2. Body Saw

When you’re doing the body saw, you’re basically sawing back and forth from your plank position. As with the plank, you have to tuck your tailbone and keep your hips up and don’t let it drop to the floor.

The steps:

 • Place your toes on a towel, and get into a plank either on your palms or your forearms. Remember to keep your elbows directly below your shoulders, and your palms facing forwards to keep your arms parallel.
 • Push your palms and forearms, so you can slide backwards. Try and move as far backwards as you can while keeping your core engaged.
 • Then pull your body forward with your arms so you can return to the original position, and repeat the core exercise.

3. Wheelbarrow

Here’s a core workout that’s a little more difficult, since you’ll be utilising your shoulder stabiliser muscles as well. But when you’re doing the wheelbarrow, you have to be mindful; you might be in danger of straining your lower back. You can just use a tower or the towel if you don’t have gliding discs or the old school ab roller.

The steps:

 • Get on all fours, and get your towel under your hand. Keep your back flat by engaging your core and tucking your tailbone in (just like in the plank).
 • Slowly push your hands to the front. Bear in mind that you have to keep your arms straight.
 • While keeping your torso in the plank position, try to glide as far forward as you can.
 • Lastly, get back to the original position by pressing into the floor and pulling your arms back.

4. C-Curve

This core exercise just uses the most intense part of the sit-up. You’re actually strengthening your abs as you hold them with constant tension. If you’re worried about straining your back, you could switch to the C-Curve instead, where your spine is lengthened because you’re keeping your tailbone tucked.

The steps:

 • Sit on your tailbone on the floor. Your knees should be bent and your feet should be planted on the floor.
 • Round your spine and tuck your tailbone in. Lower your torso as if you’re lowering it after you finish a set of sit-ups.
 • About halfway before you reach the floor, stop. Hold and engage your core and your quads.
 • You can let your hands hold onto the area just above your knees. If you want more of a challenge, you can just hold your arms out in front of you.

5 Ways to Supercharge Your Workout

5. Side Bend

It’s one of the well-rounded core workouts out there. The side bend pushes you to work not only your obliques and core muscles but your arms and back too. If you do it right, you’ll probably feel the burn not long after your first rep.

The steps:

 • Start your rep with a side plank: place your right palm on the floor, right below your right shoulder. Stagger your left feet in front of your right feet. For a bigger burn, you can even stack your left foot on top of your right. You can just let your left arm hang on your left.
 • Dip your hips towards the floor and lift it up. Keep your core and butt engaged.
 • That’s one rep. Then repeat your reps on your left side too.
two men's black and white crew-neck t-shirt

6. Plank Tap

Here’s another way to ramp up the burn for your planks. The trick? You need to do this without rocking your hips from side to side.

The steps:

 • Begin with a plan: keep your palms flat on the floor, and your hands shoulder-width apart. Remember to keep your shoulders stacked directly over your hands.
 • While holding your hips steady, tap your right hand to your left shoulder and vice-versa.
 • You have to avoid rocking your hips from side to side. Keep your engagement with your core and glutes.

7. Leg Raise

If you want to target your lower abs, try a few reps of this core exercise to feel the burn. It’s great when you’re sitting at home all day because it helps strengthen and add flexibility in your hip flexors. By increasing your hip mobility, you’ll be able to be even lighter on your feet once you come out of the Circuit Breaker.

The steps:

 • Lie straight on the floor, you can either keep your hands at your sides. Or tuck them underneath your hips if you need extra support.
 • Raise your legs slowly until your feet are facing the ceiling. Keep your legs together and lengthened.
 • Then slowly lower your legs back to the floor, but don’t let them touch the floor. Keep your legs just a few centimetres off the floor. And then you start over.
 • When you do leg raises, you have to keep your lower back flat on the floor so you’re not straining your lower back. If you’re having trouble with that, you don’t need to lower your legs as far.

With a new spate of unlinked COVID-19 cases in Singapore, the government has increased restrictions in the hopes of containing the disease. Well, at least we’re the best place in the world to be during the pandemic by Bloomberg LP last April. And fear not—bubble tea shops will remain open. By now, infographics about the new restrictions have already flooded into your phone. But, Tropika Club wants you to know these Five Things You Might’ve Missed Out About Singapore’s New Phase 2.

1. Dine at Local Hawkers Before Return to Phase 2

We were inspired by an infographic by The Smart Local, and we think we should continue supporting this part of Singapore’s heritage. Since we can’t dine in at eateries from May 16 onwards, why not lend a hand to our beloved hawkers by eating there before the weekend comes. That way, we could help them recoup some of their losses. Not to mention, we’d be minimising food wastage too. After all, Singapore’s food waste has grown around 20% in the last decade.

<embed link here to the smart local post here>

But remember to stay safe! The Ministry of Health (MOH) has reported that the attack rates are higher for the recent clusters. Moreover, secondary transmissions do occur in ‘mask-off’ settings, households, and at eateries.

2. Reduced Capacity at Local Attractions.

Local attractions that received previous approvals from the Ministry of Trade will have to reduce their operating capacity to 25 per cent, down from the current capacity of 50 per cent. Looks like the extension for the SingaporeRediscover vouchers came in handy. Museums and public libraries will also follow those capacity requirements. And of course, safe distancing measures still apply, people.

3. Theatres Can Remain Open in Phase 2 2021

The show must go on. Indoor and outdoor shows can continue, albeit with a capacity of up to 100 people with pre-event COVID-19 testing. And venues without pre-event testing may seat up to 50 people. The same goes for movie theatres.

But you might need to watch that new Disney movie without popcorn and soda because no food and beverages can be sold or consumed in the theatre.

4. Wedding Plans for This Sunday Could be Exempted

The MOH has stated that the government could exempt couples who already have plans for this Sunday, but wedding receptions are prohibited. Couples may proceed, but pre-event testing is required for all their guests. So for those tying the knot, may your wedding bells continue to ring this Sunday.

A feat, considering they were rehearsing The Year of No Return during the thick of the pandemic. Imagine this, the actress in KL is being filmed in the studio by the crew there, and then Haresh is all the way in Singapore, watching it and giving directions and notes on Zoom.

5. Stepping Up Antigen Rapid Testing Program for COVID-19

COVID-19 Testing is one of the most crucial tools to track how the virus is spreading. That way, individuals who have been exposed to the virus can be identified before they spread it. It was through testing individuals with Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) with a COVID-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test that enabled the swift detection of unlinked cases in Singapore.

Antigen Rapid Testing (ART) is another tool in our testing arsenal that could speed up the detection of possible COVID-19 cases. ART testing will be given to all patients with Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) or its symptoms across Singapore’s health centres, including Swab and Send Home (SASH) Public Health Preparedness Clinics (PHPCs), Polyclinics, Emergency Departments and Regional Swab Centres (RSCs).

ART will be given alongside PCR tests, and both tests will be funded by the Government for anyone with ARI symptoms. Though ARTs are less accurate than PCR tests, their faster turnaround can allow swifter public health actions for those who test positive.

The new strategy will roll out progressively from 15 May, first to 200 SASG PHPCs that already have licenses, before expanding to the rest throughout May. Then, Polyclinics, Emergency Departments in hospitals, and RSCs will be made to provide ARTs.

Notes from the Editor About the New Phase 2

Should we just call these preventive measures for the COVID-19 pandemic a Circuit Breaker? We’re already saying goodbye to air travel bubbles. Even the retail outlets at Jewel Changi Airport are closed till the end of May. And I don’t even want to start to think of the air travel bubbles closing down again.

Well, there’s only so much we can do. Like my mother tells me, take it one day at a time. Stay safe, everyone!

Coming Back From The Year of No Return — In Conversation with Haresh Sharma https://magazine.tropika.club/haresh-the-year-of-no-return/ Tue, 11 May 2021 06:56:32 +0000 https://magazine.tropika.club/?p=24105 Production for The Year of No Return started innocently enough back in 2018. Haresh and his team were looking to create a production that could include a few international artists. Climate change seemed to be able to unify the voices of these artists. Then they found out that 2020 was what some scientists called ‘the point of no return’.

The post Coming Back From The Year of No Return — In Conversation with Haresh Sharma appeared first on Tropika Club Magazine.

]]>

I have to admit I didn’t know who Haresh Sharma was when I first met him. It was two years before interviewing Haresh Sharma for The Year of No Return. I signed up for a playwriting and acting course at the Birds Migrant Theatre, a local theatre group comprising migrant workers in Singapore. And as I went through the playwriting part of the course, I had to write a short play to be reviewed. Haresh was the one who took a look at my play.

Ignorance is bliss. If I were any other writer, I would have been gobsmacked. Here was the playwright who wrote Off Centre, the landmark play by The Necessary Stage. He was friendly, humble.

I had the privilege of working with him for two plays by the Bird’s Migrant Theatre. As he devises new works, he invites you to explore, to play. He trusts your voice and your point of view. He tries to mould it into the play, becoming a kaleidoscope of ideas and perspectives.

It’s the same for The Year of No Return. In ideating the piece, he was happy to let the choreographer conduct a workshop at the beach for the production’s artists and actors. ‘

I spoke with him last Saturday about The Year of No Return, for which he’s one of the playwrights. He joined me over Zoom, donning black-rimmed glasses and a black t-shirt.

*The conversation has been edited for length and clarity.

The production started innocently enough back in 2018. They were looking to create a production that could include international artists. Climate change seemed to be able to unify the voices of these artists. Then they found out that 2020 was what some scientists called ‘the point of no return’.

‘Because, in the past, a lot of countries were just ‘playing around’ with climate change. Like ‘okay, let’s recycle’, or ‘let’s use more solar energy’. But it wasn’t being taken as seriously as it needed to be,’ Haresh told me. ‘We thought that’s an interesting topic, and so that’s why we wanted to do something around the issue of climate change with our title—‘The Year of No Return’.

The production was originally slated for SIFA 2020. But, as you know, the pandemic hit. New realities hit: social distancing, lockdowns, masks—you know the drill.

But with new realities come new perspectives. ’The pandemic is a by-product of climate change. It’s also about human behaviour, it’s also about mental health. It’s about how we treat animals and plants.’ Haresh props up on his chair. ‘The more we researched, the more we realised we’re all so interconnected, that the virus comes from human folly, so to speak.’

‘It was a lot of work. We were constantly writing and rewriting. But it was also fulfilling. Because we were able to make the work more current. We could talk about inequality now as vaccination came into play.’

Then there were lockdowns and travel restrictions. The international artists that they were collaborating with for The Year of No Return weren’t allowed to visit Singapore.

‘We had four actors from overseas. Two from Manila, one in Kuala Lumpur, and another one in Tokyo. So we had to arrange to be filmed in their own cities, and then we compose the work (for the stage), with both the live elements and the film elements.’

The production soon morphed into a logistical nightmare. They needed to find recording studios in each of those cities, not to mention all the equipment required for the recording.

Read Also: How I Got Close to My Mother

Max Tan, the costume designer, had to nail down the costumes and props at a moment’s notice. Because they had to ship all of it across 3 different cities. Some got stuck at a warehouse. So their team had to track down the logistics company so that their parcel could arrive on time.

Perhaps this is where we can see Haresh’s reflection of our interconnectedness, how people need to come together. When they needed to rework the script, Haresh bounced ideas off Rody Vera, another playwright in the Philippines who works on the production. The set designers and costume designers shared ideas on how to change the set.

‘You know, it takes a village to put up an entire play. Yet everyone was so willing to come together despite all the changes. Whether it was the stage manager or the administrator, everyone was doing what they had to do, and they did it!’

A feat, considering they were rehearsing The Year of No Return during the thick of the pandemic. Imagine this, the actress in KL is being filmed in the studio by the crew there, and then Haresh is all the way in Singapore, watching it and giving directions and notes on Zoom.

But there’s another actor in Manila. He also has to get on Zoom to have that conversation, even if they were filming only the actress.

Despite that chaos, they managed to create a comprehensive piece that looked at how the decisions affecting our planet are in the hands of the big players: the corporations, the politicians. It also delves into how the drastic changes could be affecting our collective mental health too.

And The Year of No Return looks to be a feat of interdisciplinary art, combining not only the live performance of the actors on stage, the digital video feed of the actors overseas, and the choreography of multimedia on stage.

While incorporating new elements, or digital elements for that matter, might feel new. Theatre is no stranger to constant evolution. But the way we experience stories and the arts has been shifting towards the digital since before the pandemic. So I posed him this age-old question: how will the theatre stay relevant?

‘I think storytelling in any form will always be relevant. People always want to hear stories, and it’s our responsibility to tell more stories than ever. Because, for a long time, a lot of stories have been suppressed.’

‘That one thing about Theatre is that we can adapt to the environment to the changes. Yes, we love going to the theatre because it’s a whole experience—you watch the actors live, and you talk about it with your friends. I think that will continue, even though at the moment it is with a drastic reduction in audience size. But at the same time, I think artists are responding to the environment by creating new forms to capture today’s ethos.’

As for capturing new audiences, Haresh thinks that having diversity and variety matters, beyond the few of us who like theatre, and the few of us that can afford it. He points to Drama Box that stages outdoor theatre, and the annual Red Dot Festival, which features migrant stories.

‘For me, it’s really about finding the different opportunities and platforms to create theatre. And not just create theatre with professional actors, but with all kinds of participants.’

Maybe that’s what we need to do: to come together and share our stories. Maybe then, we can share our hopes and learn to stop and listen—especially when we’re facing so much uncertainty, what with the state of the world now.

Since theirs is a production that ‘seeks to question whether we live in an age of despair—or one of hope in the dark,’ I asked Haresh, how does he navigate this ‘age of despair’ and find hope?

‘I think there’s something about being theatre people where we live through this despair and we live through joy. We live through, you know, our rollercoaster emotions with the support from one another. And I think that is something that I would say has kept me going for the past 30 years.’

‘Because in dark times and in difficult times you depend on each other. And then in happy moments, you celebrate together. Maybe it’s a kind of bubble that we live in for the theatre community. It’s different from the real world.’

‘But I don’t care! Because it is my reality, and the people around me are very supportive. We think about each other all the time, and we reach out to each other in whatever way we can.’

‘So just be there for each other, whenever you can.’

7. Kucina Italian Restaurant

Introduction: Kucina Italian Restaurant is founded in June 2016 by Chef Gero @ Omar, an Italian-Muslim revert, who has over 30 years of experience in Italian cuisine. Realising that there’s no authentic and halal Italian food in Singapore, he decided to open the first one. Chef Gero wants to introduce Italian food to the Muslim community, who may not have the chance to enjoy such food due to the ingredients commonly used in Italian dishes.

Authenticity, in Kucina’s context, is all about retaining the original method of preparing Italian food – no short-cuts or fusion. You can never find any other halal Italian food in Singapore that are more authentic and halal than the food served at Kucina. Why? Firstly, the restaurant is spearheaded by an Italian head chef who has an extensive knowledge on Italian food. Secondly, and most importantly, it is MUIS halal certified.

The word Kucina is inspired by the actual word “Cucina” which means ‘kitchen’ in Italian. To suit the local enunciation of words, the letter K is used instead of C. Hence, the word KUCINA is formed.

The open concept kitchen is introduced to allow customers to have a first-hand view of the preparation of the food by the chefs. They will be able to witness the freshness of produce used and the passion that the chefs possess in order to deliver the best Halal Italian food. The name Kucina represents the essence and heart of the restaurant. For Italians, life revolves around the kitchen at home, with their mothers making fresh pasta, pizza, bread and the best Tiramisu.

Inspired by the ‘Trattoria’ style, the wooden tables, brick accent walls, cement floor and warm lightings depict the warmth, coziness and homely feel at Kucina. At the entrance, you will find the quintessential bespoke 1960’s Vespa to give the authentic feel of Italy.

15. Fika Swedish Cafe & Bistro

Introduction: At Fika, serving home-cooked, traditional (Halal) Swedish food and pastry is their passion. They use only the finest and freshest ingredients to create our dishes that will fill your belly and warm your heart.

Fika is a social institution in Sweden; it means having a coffee with one’s colleagues, friends, date, or family. The word has quite ambiguous connotations and can mean anything from taking a break from work or other activities, to going on a date. Swedes are among the heaviest consumers of coffee in the world and this practice of taking a break for a coffee, typically with a cinnamon roll and/or some biscuits or cookies, or sometimes a smörgås on the side, is central to Swedish life.

Although the word may in itself imply “taking a break from work”, this is often emphasied using the word fikapaus (“fika pause”) or fikarast (“fika break”), with kaffepaus and kafferast, respectively, as near synonyms. The shorter word fika may equally well mean having coffee with a friend at a café or konditori (a “patisserie-based coffeehouse”)

There is also a Swedish record in fika where as many people as possible are gathered to fika. Kalmar were first to break a Swedish fika record. On June 6, 2007, 2620 people sat down together for a fika. source: http://en.wikipedia.org

23. Working Title – Burger Bar

Introduction:

The early tale of (working title) brims with nostalgia and grit. Fresh off our newcomer’s high of starting our own business with Shophouse The Boutique Hostel, (working title) was initially meant for nothing more than breakfast and brunch for our guests. From the old days of having just the “One and Only Burger” to our current gourmet menu of home-ground patties, (working title) encapsulates the essence of The Black Hole Group and our growth over the years.

26. Royz et Vous

Introduction:

Royz et Vous started on 15 July 2014 as an idea to start building a halal empire. We managed to get an outlet at Bali Lane due to it’s demographics of Muslim community which is located at the heart of Arab Street.

17 Bali Lane was the first outlet which started operations on 19 September 2014. Our objective was to showcase a combination of a cafe and a restaurant into one. In Singapore, a cafe is known to have better beverage while a restaurant is known for better food.

Within a short period, we noticed an increase in traffic to our cafe, attracting both tourists and locals. They enjoy our specialty coffee and halal food created by our dedicated chefs.

It was a tough decision for us to let go of Bali Lane but we soon realized the need to accommodate and serve our increasing number of customers that is made up of new and returning who are our loyal followers.

Emphasis is placed on flavour and quality ingredients, and their flour is sourced from reputable, environmentally conscious grain millers. The team of dedicated bakers is happy to bake throughout the day, for you to enjoy a fresh crusty sourdough baguette, or a warm buttery sourdough croissant.

Mother Dough refers to the fermentation starter or sourdough culture used in bread making. Theirs came all the way from New York, from a tiny kitchen of a beloved Brooklyn bakery. Today she sits in North Bridge Road, absorbing the local atmosphere and reinventing herself. Their mother dough is the basis of all their sourdough breads, and pastries, giving rise to complex flavours, textures and nutritional value. Mother Dough is a Halal-certified bakery.

She started her bread and pastry journey in 2012 at The International Culinary Institute, NYC, and spent the next four years in the city working at different bakeries and restaurants. But it wasn’t till she worked at bakery in Brooklyn that her love for the craft deepened, and where she studied the process and rhythms of slow fermentation, and tasted one of the best baguettes.

Naadhira’s favourite way to start the day is having fresh baguette with honey, and dunking a flakey buttery croissant into good coffee. And backing her is a pretty awesome team.

35. Overrice

Introduction: Founded by four gentlemen with a passion for travelling and a penchant for discovering different cuisines from all around the world. In their pursuit, one dish that stood out was a certain mediterranean influenced bowl sold from food pushcarts at the corners of Manhattan, New York

Overrice offers freshly prepared all-in-one bowls with a choice of slow cooked pulled beef, grilled chicken or a plant-based option, fried falafel balls. It is served over seasoned basmati rice, with freshly baked pita bread and mixed salad tucked neatly on the side.

Aside from the expertly prepared versions of Mediterranean rice bowls, Overrice’s expanded menu includes pita pockets (a lighter version of the same variety) and fancy New York inspired mocktails. Also, in the spirit of the “support local” movement, Overrice has partnered with up and coming talented dessert chefs.

The highlight of the whole Overrice experience are the two sauces that accompany each meal — the elusive yet addictive white sauce, and a fiery hot chilli sauce blend. Though the actual recipes remain secret, they’ve got them committed to memory and down to a science — freshly prepared by hand and bottled daily with no preservatives added.

Every detail has been thought out — their to-go food packaging is made from reclaimed and rapidly renewable sugarcane pulp, (a by-product of the sugar refining industry that remains after the juice has been extracted) a resource that would otherwise be discarded and burned. As an added bonus, their bowls are microwave-safe, making reheating convenient.

36. Chix Hot Chicken

Introduction: Singapore’s First Nashville Hot Chicken Concept Nashville, known as the Music City; famous for their country music, southern hospitality and comfort food and one of the things you’re sure to hear about if you read up on Nashville is a local dish called “Nashville hot chicken,” a local culinary specialty. Nashville hot chicken is quickly becoming Nashville’s worst kept secret. The scorching, crunchy poultry explosion is so uniquely appetizing it’d make Music City a worthy vacation destination even without the music. Like any truly iconic dish, it has a great story to tell, filled with raw human emotion, controversy, and strange hallucinations.

Back in the 1930s, Thornton Prince III’s (The Founder of Nashville Hot Chicken…) girlfriend was so fed up with his womanising that, one night when he stumbled into his Nashville home late and full of excuses, she decided to teach him a lesson. Putting a malicious twist on the old saying that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, she prepared Prince a buttermilk-fried chicken breakfast, doused in what she believed to be an intolerable amount of cayenne pepper and a few others known to be the the world’s hottest peppers. Prince however liked it so much that he opened up a restaurant – as a single man of course and till this day the restaurant, Prince’s Hot Chicken still remains.

Co-founders Taufik Batisah & Ismail Bober is proud to announce the official opening of Chix Hot Chicken at 1 Jalan Pisang, a halal-friendly fast casual restaurant serving Nashville Hot Chicken which comes with 3 different levels: Mild Hotness, Extra Hotness and Insane Hotness. They also serve Nashville hot chicken sandwich and thick vanilla milkshake. For those who can’t take the heat, they do have non-spicy fried chicken too! For Taufik & Bober who first became friends at the gym 11 years ago, the idea of going into business together was sparked by their love for fried chicken. “The idea of Nashville Hot Chicken intrigued me after watching an episode of Anthony Bourdain’s Parts Unknown. I travelled to Nashville to try this famous dish and simply fell in love with it & the southern hospitality. We brought the concept here and use the hottest organic dry peppers (Carolina reaper & Ghost Peppers) & other “secret” spices for our chicken to bring a different kind of taste & heat to Singapore” said Bober.

Being the first ever Halal friendly Nashville hot chicken restaurant in Singapore, Chix hopes that our customers will truly enjoy its hot chicken and leave with a smile or in tears… (Depends on how hot they go!) “We believe it’s very important for the quality of our food to match the quality of our service. Our goal is to provide a memorable & fun experience for every single customer. We treat everyone like family and with that we hope that our patrons will feel at home when they drop by,” said Taufik.

There are few things that have the type of impact on daily life that anxiety can have. The best way to manage the potentially crippling impacts of anxiety on sufferers is to acquire as much knowledge as possible about the condition. Put the tips in this article by Tropika Club to diligent use, and it can be easier than ever before to mitigate the harm anxiety might otherwise cause.

1. Take your mind off what worries you

Separate yourself from things that cause you anxiety for a few hours every day. If you find that thinking about something too often is making you anxious, go on a walk or somewhere you like for a while. Thinking about something too much can just make it worse, so keep your mind occupied.

When you begin to feel overwhelmed, or anxious, give yourself a time-out. Do some yoga, play pleasant music, learn techniques to relax, or get a massage. Taking a step back, and regaining your composure should stop the attack in its tracks, before it turns into a full blown anxiety attack.

2. Find a calming anchor

To help control your anxiety, try to find the things or people that make you laugh the most. This could include watching a comedy movie, reading a funny book, or simply telling jokes with friends. You will find your anxiety to be much more controlled when you feel more joyful.

Find someone that you can talk to about your anxieties. You can minimize your negative thoughts by talking about them if you are serious about eliminating anxiety and are willing to look at them rationally. If you find a person that you trust who has experienced everything you have, then that’s even better.

6 Great Tips on Getting Things Done, No Excuses

3. Less alcohol, less nicotine, less coffee

Cut down on nicotine and alcohol use. While they may be touted as relaxants, they’re not really. As a matter of fact, they will often lead to increased anxiety that will be worse than before you started relying on them. Instead, shift towards something that is healthy, such as relaxation therapies, a diet that is healthy and positive social activities.

If you suffer from anxiety, try your best to quit smoking, as soon as possible. Smoking reduces the functionality of many different organs in your body, putting you in a position where you may be more stressed than usual. Quitting smoking can refresh your body and increase your overall outlook on life.

4. Get distracted

Distracting yourself can be an excellent tactic when you feel particularly vulnerable to anxiety. Surround yourself with positive people and those who make you laugh. Not only can you relax by doing this, you can also keep yourself from dwelling on your problems and making them worse.

If you are having anxiety about one particular thing, ask a friend to exaggerate the issue to epic proportions. Although this may seem counter productive, after a few times of making up crazy stories about what may happen, it starts to sound really silly to anyone who is listening to it.

How To Overcome Anxiety In 5 Simple Steps

5. Try aromatherapy

If you have a problem trying to relax, in order to release all of your anxiety, you should consider aromatherapy. There are several herbs and flowers that can ease moods, once the aromas are inhaled. Essential oils containing peppermint, bay, anise, and thyme, are a few examples of the scents that you may find effective.

Learning how to deal with stress is the key to reducing anxiety. Many people experience something known as floating anxiety because they are unaware of where the stress is actually coming from. This can be dealt with by finding the source of stress through professional therapy or other similar methods.

It is certainly true that anxiety is a condition with the power to negatively impact the lives of those it effects. A great way to handle the condition and regain control is to acquire as much information as possible about anxiety. Apply the advice in this article liberally, and you will notice a major difference in short order.

Being a Mother Changes You

And also specifically it is extremely different from individuality to individuality. Locating words for a feeling is hard and also motherhood is all about feelings and also our heart, isn’t? The love we really feel. In the direction of our own kids but not to neglect our own mums too. The joys and problems, intricate partnerships, the sacred bond and also dreams.

Parenthood is unique in its own interpretation all over the world and also it is kisses and cuddles, and late night snuggles. It is desiring the day was over and then hoping that it would certainly never finish. A roller rollercoaster of emotions, life and also a never finishing tale. A mum builds castles, helps with homework, teaches life lessons regarding broken hearts and self-worth. A twenty-four-seven job for every single day of the year. As a mother, you put your kids’ priorities over your own.

Being a Mother is Emotional

As much love as we have for our children, in some cases being a mother leaves us with an aching for things more than what exists outside the walls of our house. Between dreaming of what their future holds for them, and all the fantastic experiences they will have. Bothering with lows, missed out on objectives or frustrations. A tedious daily juggle.

Agnes – My Story as a Mother

Everyone says it but it holds true. The minute you stare at your newborn, your life changes for life, beyond measure, frantically. I keep in mind in the days leading up to the birth of my firstborn, I had a wobble. What happens if I didn’t feel mother’s? What happens if I didn’t bond? What if I was a rubbish mom? And then she came, a beautiful pink ball with blinking huge eyes, supplied by prepared c-section. She starred right at me while rooting crazily for the bust. That first latch had a profound result. Below was a small new life that needed me for presence. It was thunderbolts and lighting love prima facie. I had no suggestion I was capable of such monumental and intense emotion.

My world altered over night. Instantly I might see threat at every corner– the simple act of crossing a road came to be a game of survival– with my reactions increased to degrees I didn’t understand possible. After that and also there I understood she couldn’t be my first and last child so took place the have two more youngsters. Daily, even if it’s a difficult day as well as I’m worried and tired, I really feel blessed to have them. Now, my eldest will be 9 and my middle girl is coming near seven as well as my plump young boy has simply turned 2 and also I’m still gaining from them each day. While I am by no means an excellent mom (does that actually exist anyway?), the duty has actually made me a minimum of attempt to be a much better individual. To make every effort to take care of myself and also the world more very carefully. I am bought my youngsters’ joy and well-being besides.

Parenthood has motivated me to end up being involved in local environmental issues from marketing to obtain safe set apart cycle lanes in our area (we won!) to cutting down on plastics. I when heard a mutual friend regretting individuals who procreate and also the most awful ecological transgressors however I assume the reverse holds true. If you have a child, you are entirely invested in the future. You intend to world to be a better, much safer, much healthier place for them. In my experience, mommies are the strongest and also most concentrated campaigners I understand.

Susan – Parenthood is a Natural State

It’s difficult to specify parenthood. Being a mother is something that first occurs slowly and then suddenly. It becomes your natural state. Life is about change and it is informing to discover just how to be a parent after many years of being a youngster as well as a teen. And always really feeling so remote from the adult years, being a parent and so on. Then suddenly it’s your turn. As well as you begin to find out new things about life, regarding yourself. Certainly, you like this various other human being deeply and with a type of love that is various from all likes in the past. But it’s likewise a real examination of persistence sometimes!

Photo of woman and her children lying on bed

Kelly – Motherhood is a Roller Coaster Ride

Motherhood is a roller coaster ride. It’s a manage that never gets any type of easier, you just get better at it. Being a mother means the world to me, it has actually made me a better individual and bought a deeper definition to my life. Motherhood suggests family, happiness, love and satisfaction. Parenthood is lucky and a gift that not all of us get. It highlights the best and worst in you. Some days are difficult as well as some days are easy but ultimately the delight of increasing little humans is so powerful. Being a mother can be boring and also dull yet everyday brings something new and also I am constantly discovering more about myself and also my youngsters. They continue to surprise me with what they discover and also just how they transform daily. It is unconditional love as well as a protective pressure that you never ever recognized you had. It means putting your youngsters’s needs over your own. It is chaos and turmoil and you constantly require a package of wipes as well as rice cakes well accessible!

Xiao Hui – Being a Mom Makes My Life more Complete and Colourful

Having kids is an absolute godsend for me! I always recognized that I desired kids. Whereby what I never ever expected prior to the birth of my first son is, just how deep as well as various you can experience love. To me, being a mommy likewise indicates learning more about myself once again. From a totally various side. Parenting also comes from the life of a mommy and is (for me) a day-to-day challenge. No one leads me to my limits as much as my kids. Yet they also bring me a great deal of joy. I feel a lot more extreme and also pay even more interest to the little points. If among my kids clarifies the world to me, speak to me about the meaningfulness of policies or shows me an earthworm, that he wraps around his dirty little fingers, or asks me if God is fair. Well, it makes me stop briefly, grin and believe. Being a mom not only makes my life more complete, but also far more amazing, extra enjoyable as well as even more colourful.

Conclusion

What did we learn? There is nobody interpretation of being a mother. It is a mix of raw emotions, experiences, and also our hopes and also dreams for our children.
Every mother has their very own course to parenthood, however the incentives coincide.

Enjoy it, cherish it as well as embrace it.
