Woodlands is a planning area in the north of Singapore. During the early colonial period, Woodlands was an agricultural area with plantation estates. It then became a major transport link between Singapore and Johor, and in the 1970s, the area was developed as a public housing and industrial estate. Built in the 1970s, Woodlands New Town was the first public housing estate in the area. A frontier centre for tourists coming from West Malaysia by the Causeway and a frontier town centre for residents, Woodlands has not only had a housing estate area but also industries. Introduction:
Located within Mandai Wildlife Reserve, Night Safari is the world’s first nocturnal wildlife park. It is home to over 900 animals from approximately 100 species, of which almost 41 percent are threatened. Committed to the conservation of threatened species, the park is actively involved in a number of global breeding programs for species including the Malayan tiger, clouded leopard, Malayan tapir, and Sunda slow loris. The park is the world’s first zoological institution to breed the critically endangered Sunda pangolin under human care.
This internationally acclaimed wildlife park is a 13-time winner of the Best Attraction category awarded by the Singapore Tourism Board offers visitors a glimpse of the secret life of animals after dark. The park can be explored either on foot via four walking trails, or by tram.

#3 – Admiralty Park
Introduction:
Located in Woodlands, Admiralty Park is the largest park in the north. It is situated on hilly terrain with the Sungei Cina river running through it and houses the largest nature area within an urban park.
The enhanced 7-ha urban area now features 26 slides. The playground capitalizes on the undulating terrain to site the three main play areas – Junior Play, Adventure Play, and the Family Terracing Play – catering to children of all ages and featuring diverse play equipment that encourages group and multi-generation interactions.
Admiralty Park also features an inclusive playground, as part of an initiative announced by NParks in 2015. Inclusive playgrounds provide the physical structure, or ‘hardware’, that supports play between children with and without special needs.
The 20-ha nature area encompasses a diverse mix of secondary forest, mangrove, riverine and open grassland habitats, and is home to more than 100 species of flora and fauna. With several trails within the 20-hectare nature area, visitors can discover the different species living in the forest, spot hordes of dragonflies, and observe monkeys in their natural habitat. Alternatively, emerge from the secondary forest near the car park and admire the butterflies and different species of birds as you walk through the grassland. The walking trail also showcases interesting flora like the Put Kampung Tree and climbers like Hedgehog Rattan, an increasingly rare plant in Singapore.

Built to capitalize on the existing hilly terrain of Admiralty Park, the playground here features an exciting range of 26 slides and a diverse array of other play equipment across the Junior Play, Adventure Play, and Family Play zones. The playground also has a unique mangrove theme, inspired by the mangrove habitat found in the nature area of Admiralty Park. Play elements take reference from special features found in mangroves, such as mimicking the shape of prop roots and pencil roots commonly found on mangrove trees.

Introduction:

#7 – Woodlands Waterfront Park
Introduction:
A scenic and tranquil coastal park offering an exceptional view of the sea from the north, Woodlands Waterfront is a favorite among residents and visitors young and old. #8 – Senoko Fishery Port
Introduction:
Senoko Fishery Port (SFP), the home base for our local fishing fleet (4 off-shore; 35 in-shore), started operations in 1997. It was constructed at a cost of S$26 million to replace the former Punggol Fishing Port and has a land area of 3.24 hectares.

#9 – Sembawang Hot Springs
Introduction:
Located off Gambas Avenue, Sembawang Hot Spring Park features new cascading pools and a water collection point, enhanced accessibility for wheelchair users, and educational panels where visitors can learn about Singapore’s only hot spring park’s history and geology. The park’s rustic environment, reminiscent of old kampungs, also holds many collective memories for the community.
Visitors can enjoy the new Floral Walk and see fruit trees and edible plants commonly found in kampungs, and flowers commonly seen in the 1960s and 1990s. The rustic environment is further enhanced by unpaved paths and naturalized streams flowing from the hot spring, which mimics the freshwater swamp forest landscape. There are seating areas sheltered by planted trellises featuring flowering creepers such as the Elephant Climber (Argyreia Nervosa). The public can also learn more about the history of the site and the geothermal processes behind the formation of a hot spring through interpretative signs at locations of interest.

#10 – Marsiling Tunnels
Introduction:
Located on a small hill between Marsiling Cresent and Admiralty Road West (formerly named Naval Base Road), the WWII Marsiling Tunnels have remained hidden from view since the colonial days. It was only in the early 2000s when the entrances were discovered, unearthing a labyrinth of tunnels built by the British.
Several theories with regards to the existence and purpose of the hidden tunnel soon emerged, ranging from an underground tunnel that leads to Johor, an underground facility for the nearby View Road Mental Hospital, to a storage bunker for the British Army during WWII.
The most compelling theory suggested that the tunnel was an underground oil storage facility built by Asiatic Petroleum Company (APC) to supply the neighboring British Royal Naval Base.
Back then, the naval base covered 54 square-kilometer — over 9% of Singapore’s land size in the 1940s — and was the largest British military installation in Asia. Also known as Her Majesty’s Naval Base, Sembawang Naval Base, and HMS Sembawang, it stretches from present-day Woodlands Waterfront Park to Sembawang Park.
About
- The naval base was converted to a commercial dockyard and scaled down in 1968. Today, it is known as Sembcorp Shipyard.
- The oil storage bunker theory was corroborated by a 1945 map that revealed the location of Woodlands North Depot (also known as Woodlands Shell Depot in later days). The depot, operated by APC, sits on the exact spot where the Marsiling Tunnels is.
