#1 – Mas & Miek Ceramic House

Introduction:

Mas & Miek is a creative collaboration by mother / daughter duo, Mieke and Charlie De Deyne.

Charlie obtained a Bachelor of Fine Art at Queensland College of Art in Brisbane, with an interdisciplinary study of Jewellery & Small Objects whilst Mieke studied her Masters in Fine Arts, Ceramics at the Australian National University in Canberra.

Mas & Miek arose from many days spent working and creating alongside one another in their hinterland studio, and their shared excitement of utilising handmade objects within the home.

In 2017 Charlie and Mieke opened Mas & Miek Ceramic House in Newstead to share their love for ceramics, and later in 2021 their second studio in Morningside.

Both Mieke and Charlie continue to work, teach and create in both studio’s, making their signature Mas & Miek utilitarian ceramics.

#2 – The North Pine Country Park Potters

Introduction:

North Pine Country Park Potters Inc is a ‘Not for Profit’ organisation located in the grounds of Old Petrie Town on Brisbane’s north side.
Currently they have over 50 members whose pots are hand made on site or locally from Australian clay and are of a very high standard.
Adult classes are held twice a week and children’s classes are held on Sundays.
They have children from the Y.M.C.A. school camps also enjoy spending some time with them making Koala garden ornaments throughout the year.
Classes subject to coordinator availability can be arranged to accommodate special need, interest groups or individuals upon request.
Each Sunday there is a market at Old Petrie Town and their gallery is open for sales. Eftpos is available and everyone is most welcome to come in and see the work of their many potters. Pottery makes a very special gift for anyone who appreciates individuality.
When you are walking through Old Petrie Town – Make your way down to Mumford’s Barn (Food Hall), past the Steam Museum and then look down the hill to the left and there they are next to the blacksmiths shed!
Your leisurely stroll will take you past the sundial the potters have made with tiles depicting the history of the Pine Shire – be sure to take a brief stop here and have a look.

Introduction:

Choose a pottery piece that you would like to transform. With over 100 different items in our range, there is something for everyone. They can show you a range of easy techniques or simply sit down and start painting. With a full palette of colors to choose from you can use one or all of them to decorate your piece.

Artisan Avenue is a pottery and ceramic studio located in Albion, Brisbane. Studio owner Jude has been honing her craft in pottery for over four decades and has taught extensively. The studio has a relaxed, casual and welcoming vibe and features a resident chicken, named Jacquie O.

Dabbler is a Brisbane based hand building studio facilitating a range of workshops for anyone wanting to dabble into clay. Dabblers are welcomed into a space for creative exploration and play. Introduction:

Here at Mudlarks we’ve been bringing fun to pottery classes since 1997. The human connection to clay is fundamental and they tap into that to help you tap into your creativity.
Class sizes are limited, with a maximum of 6 students in each.

Small classes mean you get to know each other quickly which adds to the enjoyment. Smaller classes also mean more help from the teacher when you ask for it.

Introduction:

The studio space caters for 8 students per class. Students have the option of hand building, wheel throwing and sculpting.

Clays, glazes, tools and refreshments are provided. The studio houses an electric kiln, a gas kiln as well as a raku kiln used for “plein air” field firings. There are moulds, a slab roller and extruder to help with the creative process.

#10 – Georgettes Art Gallery and Studio

Introduction:

Georgette Schwantes was born in Egypt of British parents and educated privately in London, where early signs of artistic talent were noted. She was offered a bursary to Art College but this was not to be, as her interests were more artistic than academic. Georgette pursued the course of open classes at the National and other galleries and has travelled extensively in pursuit of her interests. Her artistic studies were enhanced by tutelage from various independent professional artists. Georgette has completed a degree in fine art – sculpture in the early seventies at the Ealing College of the Arts in the UK. Her sculptures have sold into private and company collections throughout Australia and in 8 overseas countries. Prizes and commendations have been awarded from numerous art festivals and exhibitions across Australia.

Georgette has made Australia her home and has been sculpturing in Brisbane since 1975. She has also taught sculpture at Moreton Institute of TAFE. Examples of her sculptures are in the collections of a number of private collectors as well as at Ormiston College.

Georgette now teaches privately at her studio gallery in Birkdale, where you can purchase quality one off original sculptures direct from the Artist . Teaching sculpture to students and helping them to create an original sculpture to decorate their home. Sculpting is very therapeutic the most beneficial part you will derive from it, is its therapeutic effects, as its far more beneficial than sitting crossed legged contemplating your navel.
