Kovan 209 Market & Food Centre is a local hawker gem that is near Heartland Mall. It is about a 2-minute walk from Kovan MRT and a parking lot for drivers. This hawker centre is recently renovated for SGD4 million and is one of the more open hawker centres in Singapore. This well known hawker centre has numerous stalls that contain several popular hawker stalls in Singapore. Here’s our top 10 recommended list.

#1 – Yi Shi Jia Wanton Mee

Introduction: Chance upon this stall inside Kovan 209 market and food centre that serves wanton noodle, they are located at the very last row of the hawker centre. This stall has been around for quite sometime according to the newspaper article on the signboard. Seems like a popular stall, noticed many people purchased food from their stall. Prices starts from SGD$3.50 onwards and they have 3 types of wanton mee to choose from. Spicy, ketchup and black sauce. Noodle was nicely cooked, texture of noodle was springy. Chili sauce was nice but a little too thick. Charsiew wasnt dry and the wanton was pretty good as well.

#2 – Fatt Soon Kueh #01-17

Introduction: One of the best soon kueh in Spore. Actually not soon kueh but turnip kueh as the filling has no bamboo shoot(soon) but lots of turnip and dried srimp(hae bee). The glutinous skin is so thin and nice! Price is one of the cheapest available in Spore; 3 for $3!!

#3 – Hougang Hainanese Curry Rice

Introduction: Come to this stall during evening hours, and you can expect a wait of up to thirty minutes, especially on a summer weekend. Their Traditional Hainanese Curry Rice is basted with a spicy curry cordial, and seasoned with pieces of curry leaves. Something to keep in mind of is that Hainanese Curry Rice is not quite thick, rich, and gooey like the typical version, but it has a thinner consistency, a lighter coating to the rice grains. Because of this, some individuals might find the gravy average at best.

#4 – Bedok North 85 Fried Oyster (Kovan)

Introduction: The carrot cake is available both in black-and-white versions. It uses fried cake cubes made from diced radish and small, soft yet firm in texture. The white version, which is fried like a pancake, has an egg coating for a softer texture. Some chye poh is sprinkled on it, with a savoury, sweet flavour. The black version uses the same small cake cubes and is fried with egg and a sweet black sauce.

#5 – Fa Ji Minced Meat Fishball Noodle

Introduction: Being one of the popular noodle stall in this food market, their service is good, polite and caring for elderly is one of the big reason why customers willing to q for more than 10min….at least 5 to 10 persons in q during peak hour. Their noodle are cooked well with good texture and tenderness. Flavor wise, some said their chilli are using factory ready-made pack, so far I taste good n fresh.

And their other ingredients is also in good freshness, price has been increase to $4/bowl recently, but according to the option I received, I would said, is a decent option with great value. No complaints for that. If the Q is short when my next visit, I will join for another bowl of good fishball Mee Pok. (Josh Kuek from Burpple)

#6 – Xiang Rui Congee

Introduction: Best porridge in the region, but quality varies from different chef at helm . Generally above average due to its base porridge is good. Good for any time of the day. Texture of porridge is nearer to congee smooth than to rice porridge rough. Although it’s not as smooth as congee. Provide you with free half fried you tiao, and condiments of fried shallots and green spring onion. Most of the time you need to queue though. (Mark Ong from Google Reviews)

#7 – Chun Fu Fishball Minced Meat Noodle Laska

Introduction: Less rich braised mushroom taste compared to the stall beside them, but I really love their chilli. Gives a nice sharp kick to the noodles and sometimes this spice is just what you need in your BCM. They have a pretty good laksa and curry chicken noodle as well.

Introduction: Hajjam Mariam has 9 different meal options on their menu. A popular halal breakfast for them is mee rebus, mee soto, bee hoon soto, soto ayam, mee siam, lontong, and 3 nasi lemak. Their additional best seller is sambal chilli. The appetizing presentation of food items such as fried chicken wings, fried seladang, heaps of ika bilis, begedil, timun daging, fried sunny side up eggs, ground nuts, and egg omelets provides many hungry ticket holders with an irresistible incentive to rush straight to them. A wide variety of such foods are available for add on to either the nasi lemak sets or the noodle combinations.
