#1 – Arion Farm Education Park
Introduction:
In 2011, not long after the earthquake that devastated Christchurch, Craig Musson and Suzie Hynam discussed a plan to open a farm park. They were in an area that suffered virtually no damage and was easy to locate, making it a perfect place for families to come and escape their stressful lives, if only for a day. It was a peaceful place – free of damaged buildings and liquefaction; somewhere kids could run free and enjoy themselves amongst animals while their parents unwound in the tranquil surroundings.
They already had a small collection of animals, and with little funding or planning they set an Easter 2011 opening date. Cost for entry was relatively low, and children under two entered for free; further strengthening the family environment. The opening could not have gone any better, with the park filled with enthusiasm and excited conversation. Originally, they were going to close and develop their infrastructure, but people just kept turning up. They kept their doors open until Winter, and reopened in Spring with a festival.
That was the beginning……..
Arion Farm Education Park is part of the National Trade Academy (NTA), a land-based training provider located at 890 McLean’s Island Road, Harewood, Christchurch. The park is 1.6km past Orana Park – just 10 minutes from the city.

#7 – Glenlothian Farm
Introduction:
Over the last 7 years, they have collected various ‘rare breed’ breeding groups in New Zealand here at Glenlothian Farm.
Glenda joined the Rare Breeds Society in Canterbury March 2013 and is an active committee member, helping with the A & P show animal display and other annual events as well as playing her part in keeping selected bloodlines going.
The last 5 years have been busy meeting and developing relationships largely supported through the nationally recognised Rare Breeds Society, closely associated with Willowbank Wildlife Reserve. Some of these breeds have less than 200 units in NZ.

Middle Rock Station offers visitors a comprehensive farm tour experience in the scenic Lake Coleridge high country just one hour’s drive west of Christchurch. Bordered by the braided Rakaia River, the property farms over 7,000 sheep producing fine wool for the apparel trade and export lamb for international meat markets. Recently Middle Rock has also opened The Shearers’ Quarters, farmstay accommodation suitable for families, international visitors, small conference groups and those wishing to enjoy the many recreational opportunities of the Lake Coleridge area. The large garden at Middle Rock, framed by panoramic views of the Mt Hutt range, has also hosted many local and community groups over the years.
