8. Wildfire Burgers

Introduction: Multi-award-winning Wildfire Burgers was launched in Singapore and critically acclaimed in 2015; having quickly secured the title of Asia’s Best Burger within 12 months of opening, then signing a 5-city, 38-outlet franchise for China that very same year.

After 3 successful stores in Singapore, the brand took a brief hiatus in mid-2019 to redevelop and re-engineer its menu before reopening on 1st June 2020 in the heart of Singapore’s civic district, at the arts, heritage and design precinct of Bras Basah/Bugis.

Helmed by an all-star kitchen team including the original head chef from the first Wildfire Burgers, as well as one of the chefs from the opening team of the original Privé (Marina at Keppel Bay) in 2007, this is clearly no ordinary burger or fried chicken joint.

The focus is on using only the freshest ingredients, handling them with care and cooking them properly with time-tested techniques. At the heart of the kitchen is the mighty Binchotan-charcoal-fired INKA grill, double ventilated to generate heat in excess of 450 degrees celsius, allowing chefs to achieve superior charring and to create the signature smoky flavours that the Wildfire Burgers are famous for.

This time around, on top of their renowned burgers and signature fried chicken, the team has also developed an absolutely delicious Burnt Cheesecake that is the perfect accompaniment to any meal or just by itself!

10. Lombardo’s Burgers

Introduction: Lombardo’s shopfront is basic and unobtrusive, tucked away in a small corner of Duxton Road; if you walk too quickly, you might just miss it.

The interior of Lombardo’s is sparsely equipped, save for Chef-Owner Martijn Verdonk’s hand-drawn dragon mural. Chef Martijn personally made the burgers at Lombardo’s during debut week because this is the first franchise out of Singapore.

Chef Martijn began his career as a DJ spinning in Amsterdam’s clubs, which was arguably one of the coolest first jobs ever. Chef Martijn then put up his turntables after a 14-year run and became a private chef.

Chef Martijn caters to a select group of celebrities and socialites as a private chef. Chef Martijn wanted to share his food with everyone, not just a select few, therefore these evenings were without a doubt fantastic. Lombardo’s was born in the heart of Amsterdam’s Art’s District, with a lean menu of simply two burgers.

In just four years, Lombardo’s has risen to become one of Amsterdam’s greatest burger restaurants. Now that I’d arrived in Singapore, I wanted to check if the hype surrounding these burgers was justified.
