HIGHBALLS
Blurring lines between art, cocktail and history. Deriving from the serving of drinks in tall glasses in the dining cars of steam locomotives, where engines would get up to speed and the ball showed the boiler pressure at its highest level, known as ‘highballing’. #10 – Barbary Coast
Introduction:
Barbary Coast consists of a dual-concept programme spread over two floors and three historic shop-houses in Singapore’s Boat Quay district – Dead Fall and Barbary Coast Ballroom. The concept is heavily based on the grit and glory of the gold mining era.
Dead Fall is a concept based on the eponymous drinking holes that thrived in San Francisco during the California Gold Rush era in the mid 1800’s. These were rough and ready, cheap and cheerful, where all were welcome and anything goes.
Plush and opulent, Barbary Coast Ballroom is based on the Ballrooms of San Francisco’s yesteryear. Gone are the madams who use to run these fine establishments but we have kept the cacophony of wallpaper and aim to push flavours and experiences to the next level.
