One thing about Bedok New Town is, it has many hawker centers. Blk 216 is one of the more underrated Hawker Centers in the area, often overshadowed by Bedok Interchange Hawker Center. If you are in this area, here are the Top 10 Best Eats at Blk 216 Bedok North Food Centre. Read on to find out more.

Bedok North Food Centre

#1 – Hong Heng Fried Carrot Cake

Introduction:

“There are two kinds of people in this world – those who like white “”chye tow kway”” (fried carrot cake) and those who like the black version. Ever since young, I have belonged firmly in the former camp. However, once in a while, I can’t help but sneak over to the dark side when there’s an especially beguiling incarnation on my radar. Regardless of colour, what matters most though is that my plate of “”chye tow kway”” is loaded with garlic, “”chye por”” (preserved radish), chilli and extra egg.

Ticking all these boxes is “”Hong Heng Carrot Cake”” at stall #01-71 inside Blk 216 Bedok North hawker centre. Their basic building block of the key ingredient–the carrot cake itself–is already a winner, being all fluffy and cottony soft. What’s more, during the frying process, the highly-skilled hawker breaks it up into very small pieces, allowing the seasonings to be properly absorbed. Not surprisingly, this creates an especially flavourful result. Such deliciousness does come at a small price. You need to be prepared to wait, especially during the peak periods when orders pour in thick and fast. (Veronica Phua from Burple)”

Menu Items:

  • White Carrot Cake (S$2.50/S$3)

Location: 216 Bedok North Street 1, #01-71, Singapore 460216

Operating hours: Daily 5am–1:30pm, Monday Closed

#2 – Sin Ho

Introduction: As Sin Ho is located in a food centre or hawker centre, it can get quite warm disposed to the limited number of fans located there. Besides, make sure you choose your seats carefully in order to avoid sweating during your meal. Perhaps the best and most popular dish there, the Har Cheong Gai is simply heavenly. This dish is so popular that one employee is hired just to fry this constantly so what you are getting is always piping hot! The taste of the prawn taste brings a punch to your tastebuds. It is not too overwhelming which causes it to be too jelak nor does it taste just like fried chicken wings.

Menu Items:

  • Batang Fish Soup ($4 / $5 / $6)
  • Crayfish Seafood Soup ($10 / $15)
  • Bitter Gourd Fish Head ($15 / $22)
  • Prawn Omelette ($6) and Mixed Vegetables ($8 / $12)

Location: 216 Bedok North Street 1, #01-75, Singapore 460216

Operating hours: 8.30am to 2pm; 5pm to 9pm, closed on Mondays & Tuesdays

#3 – Han Kee Fish Soup

Introduction: Thick-cut slices of Batang (Spanish mackerel) served in a light and clear soup with tofu and vegetables. The fish slices were fresh, firm, smooth and tender while the soup has a clean taste (not bland) with some hints of sweetness from the fish and vegetables. They are very generous with their servings and they also serve braised dishes as sides to go along with the fish soup. It was simply a healthy and satisfying meal (Triffany Lim from Burple)

Menu Items:

  • Sliced Fish Soup $4/$5/$6
  • Fish Head Soup/ Bee Hoon $4/$5/$6
  • Fish Porridge $4/$5/$6

Location: 216 Bedok North Street 1, #01-46, Singapore 460216

Operating hours: 9:30am to 3pm daily. Closed on Mondays and Fridays.

#4 – Chris Kway Chap

Introduction: This highly recommended stall often attracts a very long line as soon as its doors open for business at 8:00 am each morning, and until 2:00 pm (or sold out). Every day, unfortunately, complications prevent this stall from operating from Mondays to Thursdays. All ingredients, from thoroughly cleaned intestines to pork belly, are braised for hours in this potent pot of umami flavour. Though not the cheapest of them all, you can get a bowl of kway and a platter for meats starting at $5.00.

Menu Items:

  • Kway Chap $3.40 (for 1 pax)
  • Kway Chap $6.80-$7.80 (for 2 pax)

Location: 216 Bedok North Street 1, #01-80, Singapore 460216

Operating hours: Daily 8:30am–1:30pm, Monday to Wednesday Closed

#5 – Ah Fu Prawn Noodle

Introduction: Long queue but it moved quite quickly, so we got our bowl in just minutes! Saw some say that their broth is more towards the bland end, but ours today was pretty rich with sweetness from the prawns. Portion of noodles was great, ribs were tender and easily removed from its bones, while prawns were fresh. Definitely coming back again to try the dry version! (Wei Zhi Chiang from Burple)

Menu Items:

  • Prawn Noodle $3/$4/$5/$6

Location: 216 Bedok North Street 1, #01-47, Singapore 460216

#6 – Joo Chiat Chiap Kee

Introduction: When you go to Blk 217 of Bedok Food Depot, you will not pass over Joo Chiat Chiap Kee, a hometown favorite fish ball noodle stall of Bedok natives. The small bowl of soup that come along with the mee pok noodles had four fish balls, two pork balls and one fish dumpling. The savoury slightly spicy sauce was heavily laden with lard. So good! It’s the taste and smell of old times.

Menu Items:

  • Mee Pok Dry (S$3 for small, S$4 for large)
  • Mee Pok Soup (S$3 for small, S$4 for large)

Introduction: Always looking forward to weekend breakfast in food centre! Today we rise up early and craving for 𝐇𝐨𝐧 𝐍𝐢 𝐊𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐧 Nasi Lemak! It’s cheap and good! Everything was on point, fragrant and fluffy coconut rice, super crispy and crunchy chicken wing!! The queue can be Long sometimes, so don’t be surprised when you’re there. #8 – Hai Sheng Carrot Cake

Introduction: Hai Sheng Carrot Cake closes up pretty early because they are typically sold out by the end of the day. Therefore, if you intend to make the trip down to it just to give it a try, make sure that you do so early in the morning or you will be making a wasted trip. The carrot cake’s level of moisture was quite balanced, which was excellent considering that it didn’t lead to the dish becoming too greasy. We also loved the generous bits of radish cake fried into the mix and added another layer of texture and flavour.

Menu Items:

  • Carrot Cake (Black&White) ($2/$3/$4)

Location: 216 Bedok North Street 1, #01-49, Singapore 460216

Operating hours: Daily 4:30am–1pm

#9 – Prawn & Mee

Introduction: Most famous Blk 216 food center and market have a familiar stall called Prawn & Mee, whose prawns and mee susal appear to be well-liked, so I decided to give it a try during this particular stopover. The prawn noodles stall is run by two young hawkers, and Plum & Rice used to be its previous concept before this.  The ingredients like the pork ribs are tender, while the prawn is fresh. Overall, it is a competent bowl of prawn noodles.

Menu Items:

  • Prawn Noodle $4, $6, $8
  • Pork Ribs Prawn Noodle $4/$6/$8

Location: 216 Bedok North Street 1, #01-54, Singapore 460216

#10 – 137 Lor Mee

Introduction: Lor Mee has gravy which contains the exact same ingredients as this one, but the flavors are distinct. This one has fried fish. We  love how the fried fish is always so crispy and fresh and yet isn’t oily at all. It is different than other Lor Mees out there, but this one is just as good.

Menu Items:

  • Lor Mee $2.50/ $3.50
  • Lor Mee (Fried Fish) $4.50
  • Addon Fried Fish ($2)
