Top 10 Best Eats at Boon Lay Place Food Village

Boon Lay Place Food Village is a hawker centre in Boon Lay that houses a variety of awesome stalls selling delicious local food. While less known to the rest of Singapore, it is a popular dining spot for residents and workers in the area. And it is not uncommon to spot NTU students driving here from their hostels to enjoy a late night supper. The prices are extremely reasonable since this is a neighbourhood eatery. If you happen to be at the western end of Singapore, here are our recommended food stalls to try.

#2 – Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak

Introduction:

Journey to the west for this stall in Boon Lay. The rice here is good enough to have alone with their sweet and spicy sambal — served warm, with the perfect amount of moisture. However, the Nasi Lemak Chicken Set ($3.50) elevates the basics with a chunky, juicy chicken wing fried to a delightful golden-brown, a fried egg with an oozy yolk and anchovies. If you’re feeling peckish, add a begedil ($0.50) or otah ($1.50). (Burpple Guides from Burpple)

#3 – Chong Pang Huat Chicken Wings

Introduction:

There are a few outlets and Chong Pang Huat serves BBQ Chicken Wings, Satay and Spring Chicken. The BBQ chicken wings is price at $1.30 and I love the texture of the skin and once you bite the juices oozes out and bite out the meat of the chicken wings. Yum Yum and shiokness. The lime also a good sauce to spice up the taste and together with the chili. Each person is never enough with only 2 pieces of BBQ chicken wings. (holiao.la)

It s one of the most inexpensive truffle-infused dishes you can purchase; I am confident that truffle carrot cake is a must-try menu item for all my fellow supporters of truffle on anything. If you are in the mood for feasting, choose the Hokkien Prawn Mee, which will cost you S$4.50 or S$5.50 for one plate.

#5 – Lin Ji Yu Tang Yu Zhou

Introduction:

The soup had an inviting smell of coriander and tasted fairly prominent of fish sauce. In comparison, I also enjoyed that the soup wasn’t peppery. The fish slices were soft and tasted as if marinated.

  • Fish Porridge (Price $5/$6)
  • Sliced Fish Bee Hoon (Price $5/$6)

#6 – Xin Sheng Gor Hiong Prawn Cracker

Introduction:

The original outlet in Boon Lay has been serving the dish for over 70 years, and the well-organised menu with pictures has clear prices stated. Quality is pretty good, especially when eaten hot and freshly fried. Taking pride in their generous, chunky portions of handmade ingredients that are served less oily, the 3rd-gen owners tried opening several more locations, but only 2 stalls remain today. What I like here is the thick tender 5 spice roll, with its meaty savoury sweet salty flavour. And the crispy disc-shaped prawn cracker fritters with a light shattering crunch and lovely savoury shrimpy sweet flavour. The other ingredients have that similarly nostalgic, old-school taste. Yes, I did travel out of the way just to eat this… thrice. (Ivan Teh from Burpple)

#10 – Boon Lay Satay

Introduction: The BEST satay in Singapore is boon lay satay (01-150) at boon lay place market and food village! Was introduced to this stall years ago and i the eastie fell in loveeeeee with it! It is my must buy food whenever at boon lay market! The wait for it is always at least 30mins-1 hour super duper long! At 60 cents a piece, it is affordable and it has a huge portion of chicken meat! I like how there is noooo fats in the chicken satay! It is also very juicy, tender and soft! Their bbq skills is also good and their satay is only less than 10% chaotah.

Having raved so much about it, my parents had waited a super long time for me to dabao it back from boon lay all the way to the east! But alas, when it is dabao-ed and endured a 45mins journey; the satay wasnt as juicy and soft as how i remember it to be. So if you want to taste it at perfection, recommend to dine in instead of takeaway! (Spoons of Delight from Burpple)
