Top 10 Best Eats at Clementi 448 Food Centre

The Clementi Mall and 321 Clementi are both near Clementi 448 Food Centre. It is simple for locals to find as it is only a 5-minute walk from Clementi MRT Station and Clementi Bus Interchange. There is a large crowd of people flocking to this location as its food stalls serve inexpensive food. Here’s our take on the best 10 stalls to try!

#1 – Famous Clementi 448 Fried Carrot Cake

Introduction: The black version turned out to be much superior. The sweetness on the dark soy sauce came through well, which was not overpowering, and the amount of chili added was sufficient, as well. I’ve always had a sweet spot for the black version because the saltiness of chye poh easily complements the sweetness of the black carrot cake. I want them to have added quite possibly more chili, given how much I love the darker sauced version of this lovely carrot cake.

  • White Carrot Cake ($5)
  • Black Carrot Cake ($5)

#2 – Boon Kee Wanton Noodle

Introduction: Boon Kee Wanton Noodle is a widely patronized noodle stall that got me in a 15-minute headlock to try their Wanton Mee ($3). Comparable to a classic wonton mee, their slice-and-deep-fried nuggets of char siew are put together with similarly-prepared vegetables, as well as vegetal broth served to the side. The watery sauce that the soups combined with has a taste that is more fruity than the more bitter part of the dish.

Menu Items:

  • Dry / Soup Wanton Noodle – $2.50-$3.00
  • Dry / Soup Dumpling Noodle – $3.00-$4.00
  • Dry / Soup Soy Sauce Chicken Noodle – $2.50-$3.00

Introduction: Yong Fa Hainanese Curry Rice is considered one of the popular stalls in Clementi 448 Market & Hawker Center with the never-ending long queues during the meal timing. As a Singaporean, such cuisine with a mess of rice slathering with curry sauce and selecting our preferred dishes is considered one of our comfort food.

#4 – Soon Lee Porridge

Introduction: For $2.80, I ordered their Pork Porridge. It was smooth and soothing to the throat, just like how I like my porridge to be. The pork slices were both tender and flavourful. And of course, a bowl of porridge needs some you tiao. The you tiao at Soon Lee Porridge is soft and goes well with the flavour and thickness of the porridge.

  • Pork Porridge (no egg – $3.00 / with egg – $4.30)

#5 – Kee Hock cooked food

Introduction: Hock Kee’s fried or steamed rice comes accompanied by a selection of beef slices or sliced fish. Since it comes in a gravy with eggs, the dish tastes average. Although the hor fun has a strong wok hei, everything here is precooked and only mildly warm. This is exactly how Hock Kee makes it. The sliced fish used are just the regular frozen type and isn’t the freshest ones around. Just average. As for the beef slices, they are tender with decent flavours. However its tender texture feels strangely like pork and it tastes like pork too

Menu Items:

  • Seafood Hor Fun ($4.50)
  • Sliced Fish Hor Fun ($4.50)

  • Mui Fan Sliced Fish ($4.50)

#6 – Song Fish Soup

Introduction: The Fish Noodle Soup from Song Fish Soup is flavourful and has a clean taste to it. The soup is good but there is nothing to shout about for the fish. The tangy chili sauce that contains fermented bean paste adds a kick to it. For $5 a bowl, the portions are quite generous. Light and simple. (Dave Tan from Burple)

Menu Items:

  • Fish Head Bee Hoon ($5, $6, $7)
  • Sliced Fish Bee Hoon ($4, $5, $6)
  • Fried Fish Bee Hoon ($4, $5, $6)
  • Yuan Yang Bee Hoon ($5, $6, $7)

#7 – Fong’s Dee Curry Puff

Introduction: Though the curry puff is small in size, it manages to hold a lot of filling. The interior is wet with potatoes, chicken, egg, and curry leaves. The crust is thick, but that’s not much of a problem as the tastes continuously burst in your mouth as you enjoy the curry puff. In terms of spiciness, it’s suitable for those who are not as daring as eating spicy food.

Menu Items:

  • Curry Puffs ($1.30 / $5.00 each item)
  • Chicken Wing ($1.30 / $5.00 each item)
  • Sprill roll ($1.30 / $5.00 each item)
  • Sesame Balls with Sweet Mung Bean Filling ($1.30 / $5.00 each item)

#8 – Kian Seng Lor Mee Prawn Mee Laksa

Introduction: A bowl of very unpretentious goodness Lor Mee. Thick Lor Mee sauce, coats and cover a generous portion of pork belly slices and 3 balls of niong hiang, slices of fish cakes and a quarter of braised egg. Well-balanced in terms of flavour, of vinegar, garlicky and heat from the Chilli. Extremely old-school and endearing. If it’s good enough, for Caucasians to queue in this blistering heat, it’s definitely worth the waiting. So do be prepared to queue, although they are actually pretty speedy.

Menu Items:

  • Lor Mee ($5 – $10 per pax)
  • Prawn Noodle ($5 – $10 per pax)
  • Laksa ($5 – $10 per pax)

#9 – Snow Mount Char Kway Teow

Introduction: I am probably not the only one hard pressed to locate Snow Mount CKT which occupied a small corner of a stall that sells goreng piaang. Long and short, this is a CKT which is well worth the calories. I love that it is a wet gooey heap of umami which is full of lard and wokhei. My advice is to ask for extra garlic and eggs. You will definitely love it. This is definitely not something the day before you go for a health screening but mark my words, you will definitely be back for more!

Menu Items:

  • Fried Kway Teow $5/pax

Location: 448 Clementi Avenue 3 #01-17 Clementi 448 Market & Food Centre Singapore 120448

Opening Hours: Monday – Sunday 09:00am – 09:00pm

#10 – Nam Kee Fried Prawn Noodle

Introduction: Nam Kee’s fried prawn noodle stirs up a positive, favourable fried hokkien mee. It also includes toum, fried prawns, and slice of lime and chili on the side. The chili has a dry, salty taste and a mild shrimp taste. This is a fried Hokkien mee with a nice mee hoon ratio soaking in a wet broth, with good flavours and no alkalising taste.

Menu Items:

  • Fried Hokkien Mee ($5/pax)

Location: 448 Clementi Avenue 3 #01-12 Clementi 448 Market & Food Centre Singapore 120448
