Introduction: Claypot lovers, Collect your own claypot at Claypot Corner with a variety of delicious and affordable dishes. Its original Claypot Rice features a generous portion of rice, chicken cubes, Chinese sausage slices, and vegetables. A generous portion of dark sauce is mixed with the rice; its sweetness blends well with the bitter wok hei and burnt crisp bits.

#2 – Afandi Hawa & Family Mee Rebus

Introduction: One of the better mee rebus around for its delicious, slurp-worthy gravy! It was viscous without being overly rich (unlike others we’ve tried), and swelled with notes of shrimp, flower crab, and mutton. Truly delightful! The indulgent gravy nicely coated the yellow noodles with lime, herbs, sliced green chilli, and beansprouts served on the side for crunch and texture. Do consider adding on their soft taukwa or begedil (+50c) to soak up any leftover gravy! (Cafehoppingkids at Burple)

#3 – Lin Yu Mei Kolo Mee

Introduction: The noodle comes with char siew, minced pork, lard, fried shallots, spring onions and an optional dollop of their homemade fiery chilli. The curly egg noodles are tossed in soy sauce and shallot oil that makes it very fragrant. It is also very Q (springy) with a firm bite and it does not have any preservatives/alkaline taste. Their takeaway packaging is as simple as wrapping the noodles on a piece of plastic and tying a knot on top. (Triffany Lim from Buple)

#4 – Warong Sudi Mampir

Introduction: The charcoal-grilled satay at Warong Sudi Mampir is smoky, not too sweet and is marinated lightly so you can still taste the flavour of the meat. The rich and creamy chunky satay sauce also reins in the sweetness. The soft, yet firm compact ketupat (rice cake) in the sauce melts in your mouth. Their chicken satay uses breast meat which can be a tad dry, and Warong also serves hati (liver) and babat (tripe) – both beef – but their mutton satay is definitely the star here.

#5 – Hollywood Canteen ZhenGuang Wantan Noodles

Introduction: Of all the wanton mee stalls that are open for breakfast at Haig Road Hawker Centre, the one I like best is “Zhenguang Hollywood Wantan Noodles” at #01-67.

This place is “old school” and that’s precisely why they are my top pick. There is no rushing or shortcuts for these folks when it comes to preparing each plate, but the great thing is they are aware they take more time. So for customers’ convenience, like on all my previous visits, they will ask you to take a seat and then serve you your order when it’s ready.

I like the chilli and the texture of the noodles here – they always arrive already evenly mixed by the hawker. So if you start eating immediately, there’s minimal tossing to be done. What’s more, their dumplings are very fresh-tasting and well-seasoned. A $3 serving gets you four of them, which I think, is really good value. (Veronica Phua from Burple)

#6 – HJ Waliti HJ Mazuki

Introduction: Tried the Soto Ayam from “H.J. Walita H. J. Mazuki” at Haig Road Market & Food Centre (#01-18) for the first time today. Didn’t notice the @makansutrasingapore decal with 6-chopstick rating on their signboard till after I ordered but yay!! Glad to know my “good food hunting” instincts weren’t wrong. What a tasty bowl it turned out to be. The aromatic gravy was thicker than others and quite complex in flavour due to the plentiful spices and addition of coconut milk. There’s plenty of shredded chicken breast meat and ketupat (compressed rice cake) in my $3 bowl but yet I couldn’t resist adding a Begedil (50 cents) because I think the spiced potato patty is shiok mashed up in the gravy. #7 – Haig Road Putu Piring

Introduction:

Here, traditional techniques are still practiced, such as marinating the rice flour overnight, steaming and sieving it countless times, and adding salt water to the mix so it won’t be tasteless. Even the gula melaka used here is imported from Java, pure with a hint of smoky, savoury flavours.

“A good putu piring uses quality ingredients. Our rice flour is also top grade, so it’s very soft and silky. Even for the gula melaka, we tried the refined ones before but the smell and taste is just different. It doesn’t go with our flour,” says Aisha.

#8 -Tong Kee Traditional Braised Duck

Introduction: The only stall that probably is the most recognizable would be Traditional Haig Road Putu Piring (Stall 01-18), which has won plenty of accolades prior to also being featured on Netflix’s Street Food. Nonetheless, there are still several hidden gems from mee soto, mee rubus to even a braised duck rice that was recommended by @misstamchiak. Coming here for lunch, I honestly have no idea what to eat except the wanton noodles and kolo mee which I had previously, but from the blog article, the braised duck rice caught my attention. From Stall 01-58, Tong Kee Traditional Braised Duck Rice might not look attractive from stall front, but the quality and flavour of the food more than makes up from it. There’s absolutely no gaminess from the duck meat and the braised rice that comes with it is perfumed with hints of herbs. The game changer for me, in addition to the duck meat, is the chilli sauce that you definitely have to get as it takes the flavour up a notch by balancing the savouriness of the braise with the tanginess of the chilli. #9 – Rosy & Nora

Introduction:

Keeping in simple, Rosy & Nora’s version of roti john comes in two versions – the classic with the omelette and minced meat and the loaded one which has additional cheese. All roti john is cooked fresh and on the spot upon ordering – so you might have to wait a little longer on those days with long queues. The halved baguette us dipped into egg and then fried with soft onions and spice. Presentation-wise, the loaf is kept simple – that is to say, without all the overload of cheese, mayonnaise and chilli sauce. (Timeout.com)

#10 – Soon Lee Cooked Food

Introduction:

The eggs in both the oyster omelette and fried carrot cake are fluffy without becoming greasy and giving you the smooth texture even wolfing down the whole plate. Though Lee ‘s little secret is unlike the other stalls, the stall owner uses vegetable oil as the main cooking oil and doesn’t add lard to the frying process.
