#2 – Weng Kee Ipoh Hor Fun

Introduction:

I seldom do hawker reviews because really everything usually tastes more or less similar to me but this caught me by surprise and I think I will really want to go back to the east to get this. Really never tried anything like this before and I’m not even a horfun fan. The broth was flavourful (the lard taste was overpowering and enhanced the broth so much) / the horfun itself was silky and slurped down really easily / the chicken was fried so crisply and the skin itself had a good seasoning on its own. Very happy bowl of goodness. (Aggs & Xi from Burple)

Tucked away inside laid-back Changi Village Hawker Centre, this humble stall is justifiably famous for its beautifully crisp, golden banana fritters. We dare you to stop at one. Judging from the long queues, yes. Other than bananas, there is a wide selection of fruits and tubers such as tapioca, yam, sweet potatoes, green bean and coconut.

#6 – Guang Xing Original Taste Fish Head Bee Hoon

Introduction:

These are the gems! One of the many snaking queues you’ll witness when you’re in the Changi V hawker. They have basically 2 main items on the menu – Fish soup and stir fry Sambal/black bean Fish Head. Both are simply finger-licking good!

The fish soup was light yet flavorful as though the broth was simmered with loads of ingredients with a hint of Chinese wine taste. Thick slices of fish that was smooth and odourless. While the stir fry fish head was superb. The sauce were thick with good balance of savory and spiciness. Bitter gourd was softened and well absorb the dish sauce leaving behind just a tiny winny bitter aftertaste. Fish head was not that boney and they had a considerably good amount of meat to savor on. The price of dishes were reasonable too given the generous portion! Fish soup ranges from $4-8 while the stir fry fish head is at $12, $18 or $22! Highly raved about! (Rachelle Ng from Burple)

Menu Items:

  • Sliced Fish Bee Hoon (Price $5-$10)
  • Sliced Fish Bee Soup (Price $5-$10)
  • Sliced Fish Bee Porridge (Price $5-$10)
  • Fish Head Bee Hoon (Price $6-$10)
  • Sambal Fried Fish Head (Price $12-$22)

#7 – Jason’s Place

Introduction:

BBQ Chicken Wings are priced at $1.40 per piece. Satay starts from $0.70 a stick. Waiting times were long during dinner rush and we had to wait 30 minutes for our food. The stand out for the satay is the sauce which has pineapple paste mixed in, giving the sauce a tangy flavor. We order a mix of chicken and pork satay, both went well with the satay sauce.

Menu Items:

  • BBQ Chicken Wings (Price $1.40/piece)
  • Pork Belly Satay (Price$1.20/stick)
  • Pork Satay (Price $0.60/stick)
  • Chicken Satay (Price $0.60/stick)

#8 – International Muslim Food Stall Nasi Lemak

Introduction:

Back to Changi Village and another plate of nasi lemak, this time round from the other popular stall in the hawker centre.

Similarly, the wait can take some time especially during lunch hours but this is a small price to pay for a plate of coconut infused rice that comes with a fried egg, cucumbers, fried anchovies and chicken wing. Comparing to Mizzy Corner, this stall wins in terms of the perfectly fried golden brown chicken wings which was well marinated and spiced. The coconut rice is slightly heavy on the coconut flavour while the sambal is more sweet than spicy. Overall, both stalls got their own merits and if I were to choose, I will go for the one with the shorter queue. (Julius Lim from Burple).

Menu Items:

  • Chicken Set Nasi Lemak (Price $4.50)
  • Fish Set Nasi Lemak (Price $5.50)

#9 – Million Star Fried Banana

Introduction:

This stall was on the headline early this year as the owner passed away suddenly. During pandemic time, he has been very actively promoting his business on social media. While it is sad to hear the news, I’m glad to know that his dad has taken over the stall and continue to sell their signature fried bananas. I don’t know how long the uncle will continue to served us all the fried items. Perhaps he might get someone to take over the business. So for now, do grab some while you can, when you are at Changi Village. They have 2 kinds of fried banana, with the smaller size and the premium size. Both remain tasty and crunchy for me. (Khaw Han Chung from Burple)

Menu Items:

  • Fried Banana Raja ($1.50/ piece)
  • Fried Cempedak ($1.50/ piece)
  • Fried Tapioca ($1.50/ piece)
  • Fried Nian Gao with Sweet Potato ($1.50 / piece)

#10 – Changi V. Dessert House

Introduction:

Finally tried the Commando dessert ($2.30) and I loved it! The dessert reminds me a lot of bandung, with the red tea jelly and the milk they added. Really really refreshing. The Chendol ($2.30) was probably one of the best I’ve had as well. It was filled with really thick and creamy coconut milk and gula melaka that makes it so wholesome. Really rich and delicious! Definitely a must have when you’re here at Changi Village! (Jason Ng from Burple)

Menu Items:

  • Commando Dessert (Price $2)
  • Cheng Teng (Price $2)
  • Red Ruby w. Magic Ball (Price $2)
  • Power Chendol w. Ice Cream (Price $2.50)
