By 1pm you are probably stretching your luck, as most days they could be sold out by then or favourite parts of the chicken are no longer available.,

#5 – POON KEE Wanton Noodle

Introduction: In this humble stall, classic wanton mee and other dumplings are sold along with several other soups. The snaking queue outside this location hinted at how popular the food was. Because of the tender and juicy meat, we quite enjoyed the boneless char siew, even so we typically like thicker, heavier versions.

Menu Items:

  • Wanton Noodles ($3)

#6 – Li Fang Zhou Pin

Introduction: Li Fang Zhou Pin in Jurong East has no menu available, but can choose from many other options such as Signature Soya Sauce Chicken and Roast Duck Congee 金牌油鸡烧鸭粥 or Smoked Salmon Yu Sheng 烟熏三文鱼鱼生. I had the Congee in Boat Style which is basically congess with sliced fish, cuttlefish, chives and peanuts. The congee was smoothy and not watery. It also came with Youtiao (油条) which was crisp and warm, giving a final toast on the grill before serving.

  • Pork Congee ($3)
  • Meatball Congee ($3)
  • Mixed pork Congee ($3)

#7 – Lai Lai U Mian

Introduction:

Looks like the addiction of dry handmade noodles has struck me hard! Here is another great store I would include in my top handmade noodles list along with bigger names like Grandma Ban Mee and Greenview Cafe. Situated within the humble Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre, Lai Lai U Mian is one of my recent favourite discoveries.

What makes this store distinct from other handmade noodles is its ultra springy thin noodles and the most fragrant shallots that are fried to crisp perfection. I was pleasantly surprised with the aroma of fried shallots from the start and the delicious scent lingered throughout.

Besides the original chilli, the stores also offers a tom yum chilli which I will return to try one day. In addition to the dry u mian, they also have a soup variation and other toppings such as lala/clams. (Honeydew Mango from Burple)

Menu Items:

  • Minced Meat and Lala You Mian ($3)
  • Minced Meat U Mian Dry Scallion Black Sauce Original Chilli ($3)
  • Signature U Mian ($4.5)

Location: Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre, #01-217, Blk 347, Jurong East Avenue 1, Jurong East, 600347, Singapore

Opening Hour: Saturday – Thursday 6:45am – 7pm (Closed on Friday)

#8 – Ah Wei Jing Dian

Introduction: The amount of filling to pastry was just right, and we loved that the edges of the dumpling skin weren’t twice as deep as the rest of the filling. We particularly appreciated how the sour soup transferred into our mouths when we bit into the dumpling. The meat was also tender and incredibly juicy. Overall, we thought the food was not so ideal compared to those made in upmarket Chinese eateries.

Menu Items:

  • Shanghai Small Dumplings($4.50)
  • Beef Noodle Soup($4.50)
  • Steamed Mini Buns($4.50)
  • Red Oil Wanton($5)

Location: Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre, #01-220, Blk 347, Jurong East Avenue 1, Jurong East, 600347, Singapore

Opening Hour: 6am – 8:30pm (Daily)

#9 – Famous Seng Heng Family Restaurant Pork Ribs Prawn Noodles

Introduction: The menu here is streamlined to be clear about its only product offerings, which are prawn noodles in dried and soup form. This is a more cost-effective approach than having a stall that works for all around meals and might stray away from the focus from time to time. A somewhat basic S$3 dish comes with 4 whole prawns, a generous amount of flavorful egg noodles, and vegetables.

Menu Items:

  • Prawn Noodle Dry/Soup ($4/$5)
  • Pork Ribs Noodle Dry/ Soup ($4/$5)

Location: Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre, #01-179, Blk 347, Jurong East Avenue 1, Jurong East, 600347, Singapore

Opening Hour: Thurs – Tues 5:30am – 2.30pm (Closed on Wednesday)

#10 – Guang Tai Lor Mee

Introduction: The stall is run by 2 very gentle, courteous aunties who never forget to say hello to all the clients. However, they are slow to round everyone up, so each visit high expectations are required during lunch. The portions are large, and the little red bowl placed before us appeared to be filled to the brim with delicious noodles and various other ingredients.

Menu Items:

  • Lor mee ($3)

Location: Yuhua Market & Hawker Centre, #01-189, Blk 347, Jurong East Avenue 1, Jurong East, 600347, Singapore

Opening Hour: Tuesday – Sunday 6:30am – 1:30pm (Closed on Monday)
